Hello Reframers!

Itā€™s common for friends, family, colleagues, etc. to ask me what podcasts I listen to regularly, so I figured this would be the perfect platform to share what I listen to with you.

These podcasts give me an unfair advantage in life because Iā€™m often exposed to niche or innovative concepts and ideas that I would never have otherwise been exposed to. Because of some of these podcasts, Iā€™ve learned about topics or ideas at a high level, jotted down notes for follow-up research, and often ended up in rabbit holes that gave me a new and fresh perspective on business, life, myself, and other people.

For example, one of the more well-known and rather ludicrous discoveries was when I heard about Peter Thielā€™s PayPal ā€œfounders sharesā€ being tied up in a self-directed ROTH IRA, effectively making his rise to B-boy status (what I like to call billionaires) completely tax-free. This discovery led me down the rabbit hole of self-directed IRAs and helped expose me to a whole new world of tax-sheltered wealth creation.

Here is a brief, non-exhaustive list of some fun and interesting things Iā€™ve learned about or implemented from listening to my favorite podcasts.

  • Start a newsletter šŸ“°

  • Open a self-directed IRA to invest in alternative assets with my retirement funds, such as crypto, real estate, or other businesses (not usually accessible through traditional retirement accounts) šŸ’°

  • Buy unique and interesting domain names šŸ’°

  • Biohack my way into a leaner and healthier physique šŸ¦µšŸ¾

  • Buy a standing desk and under-desk treadmill (eradicated my low back pain + step count) šŸƒšŸ¾

  • Improve my sleep šŸ’¤

  • Self-manage symptoms of my anxiety šŸ˜Ÿ

  • Daily sauna and cold shower regimen šŸšæ

  • Completely pivot my career from corporate finance to commercial real estate and develop new and life-long skills šŸ¢

  • Build a digital ā€œsecond brainā€ that stores articles, quotes, books, ideas, thoughts, reflections, tools, helpful resources, etc., all in one place. šŸ§

  • Learn how to Pronounce St. Tropez and Nice, France šŸ‡«šŸ‡·

  • Understand the principle of being ā€œpermissionless.ā€

  • Use a line of credit against my stock portfolio as a secondary source of ā€œemergencyā€ expense capital šŸ’³

  • Many, many, more

In general, listening to podcasts has helped me gain serious exposure to ā€œknown but unlived life experiencesā€ (what I refer to as things I know about but have not directly experienced or been taught by someone else). You often hear the term ā€œYou donā€™t know what you donā€™t knowā€ in the business world, but itā€™s true - if youā€™ve never been exposed to a particular concept, you may not know where to start.

Reading books and listening to podcasts written or hosted by people smarter or more successful than you could be a great place to begin your journey on living a more fulfilled and significant life.

After all, you donā€™t know what you donā€™t know. šŸ™‚Ā

My Personal Favorites

Below is the list of podcasts I listen to most often, and I feel they provide the most value to my life. Candidly, there are more that I listen to on and off, but these are the podcasts that I cycle through daily/weekly.

My First Million

Self-Described: Every week, we dive deep into different business opportunities and explain how to pounce on them. Basically...we spoon-feed you interesting businesses you can start tomorrow. And hey, maybe it'll help you get your first million users, revenue, profit, employees (that'd be wild), or whatever it is you want a million of. So, click below to follow. We guarantee* it'll be the best damn podcast you ever heard.

My Description: Listen to two successful company founders discuss interesting ideas and new markets and pick the brains of other successful entrepreneurs. These guys are dorks (I mean that in a very nice way) and often make me laugh out loud with their sometimes childlike or slapstick humor.

They are so curious about learning new and cool things. Itā€™s so obvious how passionate these guys are when talking business. Both Sam and Shaan have successfully exited several businesses and have one of the strongest networks in Tech and VC.

My Favorite Episode:Ā Episode #224 with Rob Dyrdek (yes, the skater and Fantasy Factory guy)

All-In Podcast

Self-Described: Industry veterans, degenerate gamblers & besties Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks & David Friedberg cover all things economic, tech, political, social & poker.

My Description: Four uber-wealthy dudes who care about whatā€™s happening in the world and are too rich to care how it may make others feel. I feel 10x more informed on politics, markets, and business after I listen to an episode. Despite being a business-focused podcast, these guys really make me laugh.

A quick intro of each host:

  1. Jason Calacanis: An entrepreneur and angel investor known for his early investments in companies like Uber and Robinhood as well as the successful exit of his company, Weblogs, Inc.

  2. David Sacks: A technology entrepreneur and investor, a founding COO of PayPal, and later a successful venture capitalist.

  3. Chamath Palihapitiya: A venture capitalist and founder of Social Capital, he's known for his investments in technology and for being an early executive at Facebook, aka ā€œFounder/dictator and aka the SPAC King.ā€

  4. David Friedberg: An entrepreneur who founded The Climate Corporation and has investments in various technology and life science companies.

The School of Greatness

Self-Described: Episodes range from interviews with incredible world-class game changers in entrepreneurship, health, mindset, and relationships to solo rounds with the host, Lewis Howes (me!), and the once-a-week listener-favorite, the 5-Minute Friday format.

We cover topics like Fitness, Money, Nutrition, Spirituality, Entrepreneurship, Mental Health, Human Rightsā€¦ and more every week.

My Description: This is one of my longest-standing podcast listens. Iā€™ve listened to Lewis since college (10+ years now), and he never ceases to amaze me with the caliber of people he brings to his pod. Because of this pod, I am a better person, leader, friend, son, etc.. Lewis is a bright light in this world.

Modern Wisdom

Self-Described: Iā€™m a podcaster, YouTuber and club promoter. Currently learning out loud with guidance from the most interesting people on the planet.

My Description: An intellectually curious Brit living in Austin, TX, who asks some of the most thoughtful questions to some of the most interesting people around.

He also repeats several phrases and altruisms across episodes that stick with you. For example, ā€œWhy would you want to be average? The average American is obese, divorced, and has less than $1,000 of savingsā€.

And another, ā€œHell is where who you are meets who you could have been.ā€

The Money with Katie Show

Self-Described: Money with Katie was founded in 2020 as a space for me, Katie Gatti Tassin, to document everything I was learning about personal finance on my journey to financial independence.

As a former public relations major in corporate America with a penchant for swiping my Discover card, my obsession about personal finance hit me hard out of left field ā€” and as I watched my net worth grow in tandem with my financial literacy, I realized just how valuable the information was. Sharing it with others became an obsession.

I left my full-time job at the end of 2021 to devote all of my energy to building this business, and Money with Katie was acquired by Morning Brew in 2022. Today, I run Money with Katie as part of a team of three, and weā€™re rapidly growing our reach.

My Description: The most relatable personal finance podcast around. Katie is ā€œone of usā€. A normal, hard-working person who followed a passion for personal finance and turned it into a successful brand and podcast. Katie is an inspiring success story. Her personal finance advice is highly practical and relevant.

Side note: I sent her an e-mail once, and she responded šŸ™‚Ā

The Knowledge Project

Self-Described: Hosted by Shane Parrish, The Knowledge Project Podcast uncovers the best of what other people have already figured out so you can use their insights in your life. More than a podcast; itā€™s a masterclass in understanding lifeā€™s complexities, and enhancing personal and professional decision-making.

My Description: The quality of the guests and the questions Shane asks his guests blow my mind. Shane is inquisitive and knows how to ask the best people the best questions.

His website separates his episodes into various themes. I think there is something for everyone, and I constantly refresh Spotify to see if heā€™s dropped new episodes! He also has a great Canadian accent, which makes it all the more enjoyable to listen to šŸ™‚Ā

The Tim Ferriss Show

Self-Described: Each episode, I deconstruct world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics, tools, and routines you can use. This includes favorite books, morning routines, exercise habits, time-management tricks, and much more.

My Description: Tim has a revolutionary way of approaching life and tends to draw the best out of his guests via long-form podcast interviews. Tim not only inspires his listeners by the quality of his guests, but he is also incredibly insightful and knowledgeable across a broad spectrum of topics.

Huberman Lab

Self-Described: Regularly ranked as the #1 health podcast in the world, Dr. Huberman discusses science and science-based tools for everyday life. New episodes are released every Monday.

My Description: Huberman is a man of the people. He has revolutionized the publicā€™s access to reliable, science-based protocols and regimens for living better, healthier lives. #HubermanHusband #TeamColdPlunge

My Favorite Episode: I have several favorite episodes, but I find this one pretty cool. You may have heard of the mental toughness phenom David Goggins. In this episode, Dr. Andrew Huberman supports and backs Gogginsā€™ superhuman fortitude with science. David Goggins: How to Build Immense Inner Strength

The Game w/ Alex Hormozi

Self-Described: Welcome to The Game w/Alex Hormozi, hosted by entrepreneur, founder, investor, author, public speaker, and content creator Alex Hormozi. On this podcast youā€™ll hear how to get more customers, make more profit per customer, how to keep them longer, and the many failures and lessons Alex has learned on his path from $100M to $1B in net worth.

My Description: Alex is one of the hardest-working, most intense entrepreneurs Iā€™ve listened to. He discusses business challenges and creative solutions that are relevant and practical for ALL entrepreneurs, business owners, and business professionals. Heā€™s a bit of a ā€œbroā€, but the business advice is too good to pass up.

Alex is hyper-transparent and overshares for the benefit of the audience. I have garnered tremendous business knowledge and apply some of his mental models daily. He is direct and cut-throat but entertaining nonetheless.

Listen to his pod to up-level your business and sales skills.

My Favorite Episode: I have a ton of favorites, but this one spoke to me. (I have a perfectionist problem.) Youā€™re Not Good Because Youā€™re Unwilling To Be Bad | Ep 630

Phew! That was a lot of podcasts, but I know they will serve you well as you continue your path toward living a fulfilled life of growth, gratitude, kindness, and significance.

May you always have the humility to learn from others and have the confidence to ask questions.
